A Virtual Fundraiser for Project Rhino and Wildlife ACT
Join us for a safari and rhino tracking event live from South Africa
Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 24th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST for US viewers and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. for UK viewers!
This virtual event will be hosted by Betsey Brewer Bethel, Executive Director of EARTH Limited, located at Southwick’s Zoo, and will feature special presentations by Dr. Simon Morgan, Director of Wildlife ACT and Floating Chairman of Project Rhino KZN, Mark Gerard of Wildlife Act, and other key players in rhino conservation. With this event, it is our hope to raise awareness about wildlife trafficking and rhino poaching, two very serious environmental concerns that affect the entire planet, especially future generations.
EARTH Limited is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire commitment to protect and conserve our planet. At EARTH Ltd, we believe the first steps towards active conservation and caring for our Earth are education and forging a connection between people and their environments. In collaboration with Southwick’s Zoo, EARTH Limited began offering up-close encounters with the zoo’s two Southern White Rhinos, Thelma and Louise, in 2014. These encounters not only provide a unique way for people to learn more about rhinos and the threats they face in the wild, but also help to inspire a commitment to help conserve rhinos by creating a more meaningful personal connection with these amazing animals. Proceeds from rhino encounters go directly towards rhino conservation efforts in Africa.
In 2016, Betsey connected with Dr. Morgan and learned about the incredible work being done by Wildlife Act, one of the many members comprising Project Rhino. Project Rhino is an association of conservation agencies, game reserves, and other organizations all working together to facilitate rhino conservation interventions aimed at eliminating rhino poaching and securing the white and black rhino populations of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.
Each year EARTH Ltd has donated rhino encounter proceeds, averaging $20,000 per year, to Project Rhino to support their amazing work with rhinos in South Africa. This past year, due to Covid-19, rhino encounters offered by EARTH Ltd at Southwick’s Zoo were only sparsely attended. Therefore, it is our hope to raise $20,000 in support of rhino conservation during this live telethon. All donations will go directly towards funding the important work of Project Rhino, including anti-poaching patrols, ranger equipment and training, community education, and much more.
